NASA's Earth-Sun Science Outreach Program at the
Goddard Space Flight Center have created a series of 12 monthly,
cloud-free imagery mosaics using MODIS satellite data at 500 m spatial
resolution. You can learn more about the project by visiting the
official NASA site, where
you will find details of the technology, sample images, download
sites, and various mpg visualizations. We have taken those mosaics
and draped them over global terrain data at 500 m, and provide access
to them in several ways.
To fly around them in TerraExplorer or TerraExplorer
Pro, you can click on one of the links below. These applications
were created as part of an NSF REU program awarded to ARSC; intern
Luis Perez provided created the Earth Models here and Peter Prokein
created the Applications that use them.

Want to see how the planet changes with the seasons? Here
you will find cloud-free mosaics for every month of the
year, showing changes in snow cover and plant life over
time. More info.
To download these 3D applications
onto your hard disk, click here
(note: they are about 3GB each, but everything you need to run them
without an internet connection is there).
To fly around them in a custom web viewer
we created which you can cut and paste into your web page,
To view the January image in a mac/unix
viewer we're still developing, click here.
Note that while you can get 3D perspective with this tool, there
is no full motion flight capability.
To fly around in a really cool application that
allows you to fade between the months, created by Chuck Stein at
GeoFusion, click here.

Want to fade back and forth between the months while in
3D? Here you will find cloud-free mosaics for every month
of the year, showing changes in snow cover and plant life
over time. More

To download the raw images, click
here to download them from us; we have our own download site
going courtesy of ARSC that may
be faster than trying to get them through NASA.. The higher resolution
files are arranged in tiles, which you must stitch together yourself.
You can also download them from NASA's Blue
Marble site.
